No Child Left Behind (NCLB)
Overview

On January 8, 2002, President Bush signed into law the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB).  NCLB is based on four basic principles that have led to higher standards and increased achievement. These principles are stronger accountability for results, greater flexibility for States and Communities, more choices for parents, and an emphasis on teaching methods that have been proven to work. Title I is the part of NCLB that supports programs in schools and school districts to improve the learning of children from low income families.
